Historic Vicenza resembles an open-air museum of Palladian style architecture. Vicenza is the birthplace of Federico Faggin, the guy who invented the silicon chip. The city is also the hub of Italy's gold producing industry, with a third of the country's gold, produced here. Every year, several International gold fairs take place here, making the city a busy place. Besides, Vicenza is one of the biggest textile manufacturers on the continent. Note that during the fairs, all hotels are full, so it is advisable to book a hotel way in advance.
